Happy Lion’s Gate, Magical Folk…Happy 8/8, otherwise known as the Lion’s Gate, a very important date within astrology and numerology. Lion’s Gate is an annual cosmic alignment in which Sirius is aligned with Earth and Orion’s Belt, all within the sign of Leo. Supposedly this alignment amplifies powers of creation and manifestation. The alignment itself actually takes place from July 26 through August 12, but its powers peak on 8/8. The belief in this phenomenon goes back to ancient Egypt, and is still commemorated today. This of course, comes right off the heels of Lammas, or Lughnasadh, a pagan holiday which celebrates the very beginning of harvest season. To give thanks for bounty and abundance, this holiday is typically celebrated with various fruits and loaves of bread! You can’t go wrong with that. In sadder news, I was heartbroken to hear about the death of actress Shannen Doherty, who in my heart, will always be the embodiment of Prue Halliwell from the TV show, Charmed. One of my favorite witches in fiction, Prue was powerful, emotional, and exceedingly strong in her magic. Coincidentally, the week before her death, I had spent much time in my jewelry workshop trying my hand at hammered wire triquetra amulets! Anyone who watched Charmed will remember that the triquetra symbol played a big role in the show, representing the magical powers of the three witchy sisters. Pictured below is the first triquetra I made, which is imperfect, and which I will keep for myself as a remembrance of Prue/Shannen. May she rest in magic; may the power of three set her free.
