For such a short month, February brings us so many gifts: Imbolc, Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, and this year, also a leap day. For those unfamiliar, Imbolc is a pagan holiday that marks the coming of Springtime. It takes place halfway between the Winter Solstice (Yule) and the Spring Equinox (Ostara), usually on February 1-2. The days are just barely starting to get longer and brighter, the ice is melting, and there may be a hit of Spring in the air. Valentine’s Day, as we all know, has evolved into a celebration of the concept of love. It can be quite a tricky holiday, charged with commercialized expectation. People either love it or hate it. Let’s agree to ignore society’s commercialization, and take this time to tune in now to our own heart chakras. Love can mean so many different things. In addition to romantic love, we have love for family, for friends, for cats (and we LOVE cats, right?), for nature, and of course our own self-love; that innate faith in our own hearts. So, take some time this February to tune into your own heart chakra. And use that extra day this month to really love your own soul. In fact, why not buy a valentine for yourself?
